What is the Refundable Security Deposit?
The security deposit is an amount withheld during the rental period, and serves as a precautionary measure to cover any additional charges that may arise, such as missing equipment, excess kilometers/miles, damage to the vehicle, traffic violations, tolls, among others. It acts as a form of security for both parties involved in the rental contract and is necessary to protect ourselves from potential problems. The security deposit is only accepted by credit/debit card. Cash or bank transfer is not accepted. Learn more about Protection Plans at Discover Our Protection Plans: What's Covered for You?
Note: Card used for booking payment can be different to the card used to hold the security deposit.
Retention and Release of the Security Deposit
Your security deposit is retained during the trip and may be subject to deductions for any incurred charges. These deductions can occur up to 30 days after the drop-off date. However, there are some situations where we may need to keep the security deposit longer than 30 days:
-
The vehicle needs repairs or evaluation from a mechanic.
-
Damage values are being analyzed.
-
In case of a remote drop-off.
We may need to hold the deposit until these issues are resolved. To learn more about possible charge after drop-off please visit: Transparent pricing: Are there any hidden costs?
Important Details to Note:
- The security deposit is strictly done by credit or debit card; transfers or cash are not accepted.
- The security deposit card can be different from the one or payment method used for booking payment.
- The security deposit is not shown as a positive or negative amount on your statement; the original authorization will simply be cancelled after 6-30 days after rental. This will appear as if the entire transaction never happened. You should be able to confirm this with your bank.
