Yes — surfboards and bikes travel well with a little planning. You can bring your own, or rent some gear from us and travel light. If you're bringing your own, how it travels depends on your model: boards usually go inside, while bikes go either on an external rack (some models only) or folded up inside. Here's how to sort each — and how to check what your specific van offers before you book.
Prefer to travel light? Rent it from us
You don't have to bring everything. We rent a range of gear as extras — surfboards, wetsuits, foldable bikes and more — so you can pack lighter and pick up what you need at the depot.
A couple of things to know: extras are available at selected depots, so they vary by pick-up location — you'll see exactly what's on offer for your depot as you book. And if you pre-book an extra that turns out to be unavailable at check-in, we refund what you paid for it. See available extras and what's included, or how to add extras to your booking.
Surfboards and long gear
In most models, boards travel inside — laid over the top bed or stowed beneath the beds. Pad them and wedge them so they can't slide while you drive. Very long boards (a full-size longboard) may be tight, since they need to fit the van's interior length, so if you're bringing something oversized, check the model's dimensions on its offer page or ask us before booking.
Bikes
There are two ways to bring bikes, and which applies depends on your van:
- On an external rack. Only some of our models come with a rear bike rack, and it varies by model, model-year and country. Because our fleet changes over time, the reliable way to know is to check the Included Features on the vehicle's offer page when you book — that's always up to date for the exact van you're reserving. If bringing bikes is essential to your trip, confirm it with us before you book rather than assuming.
- Folded up inside. A foldable bike stows easily inside most models — the flexible option if your van doesn't have a rack.
A note on safety: please don't rig your own rack — strapping bikes to the rear door, ladder or bumper can damage the vehicle and isn't covered. Use the van's fitted rack, a foldable bike inside, or ask us about your options.
General storage
Every model has interior storage for your gear; the amount varies by van, and headroom in a storage area can shrink once the beds are made up. To see the exact layout, capacity and features of any model — including whether it has a rack — see the Included Features section on the offer page.
