Your nightly rate is built from four parts. Here's what each one pays for — including exactly what the preparation and the insurance and service fees cover — so there are no surprises at checkout.
Every price you see is made up of the same four building blocks. The first three are part of every booking; the fourth is made up of optional extras you choose yourself.
1. Daily rental price
The base price of renting the vehicle for one day. It varies with the vehicle model, the dates of your trip, and the pick-up location — the same way flight or hotel prices move with demand and season.
2. Preparation fee
This covers all the work of getting your vehicle fully ready for the road before you arrive, including:
- depot logistics and operation;
- your booking documentation;
- the pre-arrival check of the vehicle;
- setting up the kit inside the van;
- final touch-ups before you arrive.
It also includes the cleaning kit that comes with your rental. It varies with the vehicle model and the pick-up location.
3. Insurance and service fee
A single fee that combines two things:
- Insurance — the basic vehicle insurance that every rental must carry to be driven legally. It's included automatically in every booking and is not an optional add-on.
- Service — the running of the Indie Campers platform and our customer support team, so help is there before and during your trip.
This fee is calculated in relation to your reservation and varies with the vehicle and pick-up location.
Not the same as a protection plan. The basic insurance in this fee is the legal minimum to drive the van. If you want a lower excess or wider cover, that's an optional protection plan, which you choose separately under Extras (see part 4).
4. Extras, packages and other services
Optional add-ons you choose to shape the trip around what you need, such as protection plans, extras (bike racks, camping chairs, and the like), your chosen cancellation policy, and early or late pick-up and drop-off. Protection plans vary with model and location; extras are fixed by location.
Early or late pick-up / drop-off
- During business hours — if you pick up or drop off earlier or later than the standard times, this covers the rental availability lost while we adjust the preparation window.
- Outside business hours — if you need to pick up or drop off outside regular opening hours, an additional fee covers the extra staffing and facility costs involved.
A note on currency. You can switch the currency shown on our website at any time to browse in whichever one suits you. Whichever you choose, your booking is always charged in the currency of the pick-up country.
