Prohibited uses: Where am I allowed to travel?

For Indie Campers Bookings

Europe

You can drive in the following 32 European countries: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

UK & EU trips

You can drive a campervan from the UK into the EU, as long as you return it to a depot in the UK or Ireland — or the other way around. Because UK and Ireland vehicles are right-hand drive and continental European vehicles are left-hand drive, one-way trips between the UK/Ireland and continental Europe aren't possible; the vehicle always needs to return to a depot with the matching drive side.

United States and Canada

You're welcome to explore all US states as well as Canada. Travel to any other country, including Mexico, isn't permitted.

Always off-limits, regardless of location:

  • Beaches, and any unpaved, closed, or seasonally restricted roads not suited for the vehicle

Specific forbidden roads:

  • Denali Highway, Alaska (Highway 8, Paxson to Cantwell)
  • North Canol Highway, Yukon
  • Dalton Highway, Alaska (north of Livengood)
  • Eagle, Alaska (Hwy 5 north, from the junction with Hwy 9/Top of the World Highway, westward)
  • McCarthy Road, Alaska (between Chitina and McCarthy)
  • Northway Road (off AK-2) and Nabesna Road (off AK-1), Alaska
  • Trans-Labrador Highway: Highway 500 (Goose Bay to Labrador City), Highway 389 (Labrador City to Baie-Comeau), and Highway 510 (Red Bay to Happy Valley-Goose Bay)
  • Highway 167 north of La Doré, and Highway 109 / Baie-James Road, Québec

Manhattan (New York): vehicles carrying propane aren't permitted in Manhattan. Regardless of propane, no vehicle may travel through underground or underwater tunnels, due to height, propane, and parking restrictions.

Seasonal restriction: the Dempster Highway (Yukon) is off-limits between September 15 and May 15 due to road conditions. It's open for travel between May 16 and September 14.

Australia and New Zealand

The vehicle may only be driven within the single country where your insurance is valid, either Australia or New Zealand, matching your pick-up country. The vehicle can never be taken from one of these countries to the other.

Driving Outside Your Permitted Area

If you drive outside your permitted countries, or in any area listed as forbidden above, this is a violation of your Rental Agreement. We can't be held liable for any damage, malfunction, or other consequence that happens outside where insurance is valid, and you're liable for any repair costs, vehicle relocation, and any administrative costs, charges, fees, or fines we incur as a result. We also reserve the right to charge an Out-of-Territory Fee (see our Fee Document) for each day the vehicle is used or located outside the permitted territory or in a prohibited area.
