Fuel policy — how it works and how to return your camper

Fuel with us is refreshingly simple: bring it back at the level you picked it up with, and you're done. No full-tank rule, no guesswork. Here's everything worth knowing before you hit the road — including exactly how any charges work, so nothing surprises you at drop-off.

At pickup: check your starting level

Your camper leaves our depot with fuel above the reserve line, and we photograph the exact level at check-in. You'll confirm that level when you sign your rental agreement — so it's worth a quick glance at the gauge before you drive off. That photo is your reference point for the whole trip.

Whatever level you start with is the level you'll return with. Simple as that.

During the trip: the fuel is yours

Refuelling along the way is part of the adventure — and it's on you, just like at home:

  • Fuel you buy during your trip is your own expense, and it isn't reimbursed at return.
  • Always use the correct fuel for your camper. If you're not sure whether it's diesel or petrol, check the sticker by the fuel cap, your check-in details, or just ask us before filling — we'd much rather answer a quick question than sort out a mix-up.

Keeping enough fuel in the tank to drive safely is part of looking after the camper during your rental.

At return: match your starting level

Bring the camper back at the same fuel level shown at pickup, and there's nothing more to do.

If it comes back lower, here's exactly how the charge works — two parts, no fine print:

  1. The missing fuel itself, charged at the current market rate.
  2. A Refueling Service Fee for each 1/4 tank missing, shown below.
Region Refueling Service Fee (per 1/4 tank)
EU & UK €70 / £70
Australia & New Zealand AUD 100 / NZD 125
United States USD 100
Canada CAD 100

Using the wrong fuel

This is the one to be careful with. Putting the wrong fuel in the tank can cause serious engine damage, so if it happens, the costs add up: an Incorrect Fuel Fee, the repair itself, transporting the camper to be fixed, and the time the camper is off the road.

The good news is it's entirely avoidable — a five-second check at the pump saves all of it. When in doubt, don't fill; message us first.

The short version

  • Start above reserve, photographed at check-in — glance at the gauge before you go.
  • Return at the same level you picked up with.
  • Return low → cost of the missing fuel + a service fee per 1/4 tank (rounded to the nearest quarter).
  • Return fuller than pickup → no refund for the extra, so no need to overfill.
  • Right fuel, every time — wrong fuel is expensive and easy to avoid.
