Traveling with a campervan is a dream come true for many, but every once in a while there are complications along the way. As hard as we work to prevent this, there's always a small chance that a traveler might cause damage to your campervan. If this happens, here's what to do.
Before you start: the traveler's reporting duty
If an incident or accident happens during the rental, the traveler is required to report it to Indie Campers and to you within 24 hours, using the designated claims reporting process. If they don't, it can result in the insurance claim being denied and the full cost being assigned differently, so it's worth reminding the traveler of this as soon as you're aware of an issue.
If you use an Indie Campers partner insurance
This applies if your vehicle is insured through one of our partners: Riverside, more to come.
Send the following to rentmyrv@indiecampers.com:
- Rental Agreement: Signed check-in and check-out forms.
- Accident or police report: If the incident involved a third party, theft, or anything requiring police involvement, make sure the traveler gets a police report to pass along to our claims provider and to you.
- Photos and details: Take photos of the damage and attach them along with a written description. Include contact details for everyone involved, plus any witnesses, if applicable.
Deadline: All claims must be reported within 7 calendar days of the check-out date.
If you use your own insurance (professional hosts)
If you're a professional host using your own insurance, Indie Campers isn't involved in your damage and claims handling process. That said, we hold all listings to the same quality standards, and we may step in if a traveler believes they were charged unfairly. With that in mind, always be transparent with travelers and share all relevant documentation when a charge is applied.
